De Petzl BASIC is een compacte en veelzijdige touwklem zonder handgreep. Hij is licht en klein genoeg om altijd aan het harnas mee te dragen, en wordt gebruikt voor het beklimmen van een touw, bij hijssystemen en voor het spannen van een lijn.

De klem heeft een getande kam met zelfreinigende sleuf, waardoor hij ook op vuile of bevroren touwen blijft grijpen. De veiligheidspal is eenvoudig met één hand te bedienen, ook met handschoenen aan.
